How it works
The odds. Wordle now sometimes reuses old answers, but only about 1 in 10 recent answers has been a repeat. So words that have never been the answer share about 89% of the odds, and past answers share about 11%. The list of past answers updates itself every day.
The next move. The engine (version 2.0.1) picks the guess that should finish the puzzle in the fewest guesses. It plans ahead, works out small groups of words exactly, and keeps track of how many guesses you have left. In hard mode, that steers you around the word families that break streaks.
Your choice. When a different word has a better chance of being the answer right now, it shows that too, as the best shot to win now.
The best first guess

Every change to the engine is tested by playing all 2,377 possible answers, opening with RAISE and following every suggestion, with every answer counted as equally likely:
The engine runs right in your browser, on your own phone or computer, so suggestions appear within a second or so.
Put it on your home screen
Best Next Guess works like an app. Add it to your home screen and it opens full-screen with its own icon, even without internet.
- iPhone or iPad (Safari): tap the Share button (the square with an arrow), then Add to Home Screen, then Add.
- Android (Chrome): tap Install app at the top of the main page, or open the menu (⋮) and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. In Samsung Internet: menu (≡), Add page to, Home screen.
- Computer (Chrome or Edge): click the install icon at the right end of the address bar.
No app store, no download and nothing to update: it always runs the latest version.
Who made it
Best Next Guess was made by Ayman Mikhail, a daily Wordle player who isn't a programmer. It started as a spreadsheet that filtered the word list by greens and yellows, and grew into this site with help from Claude, an AI assistant.
